Abstract/Contents: | Discusses Integrated Pest Management (IPM), stating that it "all boils down to using the most effective pest control measures available and realizing that those measures don't always have to come out of a bottle or bag." Defines Short-Sighted Pest Management (SPM) as "[leading] to unhealthy turf, which leads to fewer safe turf spaces and, ultimately, to a less healthy environment." Provides a potential example of SPM involving a county stopping treatment for fire ants in their fields. Suggests that "all over [the United States], local governments are being persuaded or forced into using SPM instead of IPM. It's about time [people] dealt with them and identified them for what they are: a real danger to the health and welfare of their communities." |
