| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted to "investigate the effect of nitrogen fertiliser [fertilizer] management and presence of an organic may layer on kikuyu turfgrass water use when grown under Australian conditions." Details the methods and materials used in the study, stating that "kikuyu turfgrass water use was measured at the UWA [University of Western Australia] Turf Research Facility at Shenton Park, Western Australia." Reports that "kikuyu turfgrass water use ranged from 3.8-7.5 mm [millimeters] per day, depending on environmental conditions and treatments. The 'old' turfgrass containing 50 mm mat used, on average, 27 per cent more water than the 'young' turfgrass." Results indicate that "more vigorous turfgrass areas (...'active' sports fields) may require more water than less vigorous turfgrass areas (...'passive' turfgrass)." |
