| Abstract/Contents: | "Injury of Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) and bentgrass (Agrostis palustris) by fenoxaprop, in the form of discoloration and reduced growth, has been observed under certain environmental and management conditions. A number of additives have been evaluated for their ability to safen or mask this phytotoxic effect. These include plant growth regulators, nutrients, phenoxy and other broadleaf herbicides. The combination of a nonburning nitrogen source (21.8 lb N/A) and chelated iron (0.54 lb Fe/A) applied in tank mix with or sequentially to fenoxaprop, has proven most effective and least antagonistic. Other additives have effected various turf rsponses, including herbicide antagonism, undesireable growth responses, increased injury, and no response. The safening ability of the nitrogen + iron combination is limited to a maximum of 20% injury. It has been observed in mature and seedling bluegrass, and mature bentgrass." |
