Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the experience of superintendents Scott Nair, Les Jeremiah, and Bryan Taylor moving to Hawaii to accept positions as superintendents at Hawaiian golf clubs. States that "part of the attraction for Nair was moving from the luxury public resort market...to a high-end private club that doesn't rely on golf as a revenue stream." Describes cultural adjustments involved in moving to Hawaii, stating that "the Hawaiian people are famous for their warmth and hospitality - their Aloha Spirit - but they are also protective of their culture and their environment, which can cause conflicts with developers." Also states that "they also see foreigners, or Haolies...taking the permium jobs. This can lead to discrimination or racism in a reverse sort of way from [racism] on the [United States] mainland." |
