Abstract/Contents: | Defines the Precautionary Principle as a "model for decision-makers here in the United States, but it originated from a German legal concept, vorsorgeprinzip which literally means 'fore-caring principle.'" States that "efforts are underway to apply the Precautionary Principle to issues including pest management, land use, genetically modified organisms, nanotechnology, and more." Concludes that "participation in public meetings when the Precautionary Principle is on the agenda is also important to demonstrate public interest. Let people know that many other agencies already are buying "preferrable" products and are happy to shair resources." |
