Abstract/Contents:Discusses a study conducted at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina "to compare the nutrient holding capacity of conventional sand-based rootzones to those amended with sphagnum peat moss or with one of several inorganic soil amendments." Results include that "deeper incorporation of the amendment reduced [nitrogen] leaching more than shallow incorporation." Concludes that "it might be possible to reduce [nitrogen] leaching during putting green establishment by amending sand-based rootzones with a specific inorganic material, with or without peat moss and using ammonium based fertilizers."
