| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses effectiveness of ant baits used to control ants in turfgrass. States that "the most effective means to manage ants in turf are to eliminate the queen. The queen is responsible for producing offspring (workers); until she is destroyed the colony will continue to exists and grow." Reports that "the proper application of granular ant bait controls is critical for successful ant management." Suggests using "granular ant baits...[that are] as fresh (properly sealed and stored) as possible" and states that "they must be applied around (near the base) and not directly to non-disturbed (mowed or flattened) mounds, and they must be applied to dry turf." Concludes that "by following these simple guidelines, [a superintendents] potential for successfully managing ground-building ants in turf will be maximized." |
