Abstract/Contents: | Discusses organic fertilizers, "made from matter that was once living - plant or animals - and contains the three elements essential to life: carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen." Compares the use of natural and synthetic organic fertilizers, stating that "natural organic fertilizers like feather meal, bone meal, processed tankage and sewage sludge, and alfalfa meal are dried and pelletized and are easy to apply to [a] garden or lawn...Synthetic organic fertilizers, on the other hand, are naturally occuring compounds that are combined to create a new compound, such as the active ingredients IBDU (isobutylidene diurea), urea, methylene urea, and sulfur-coated urea." Suggests that "no matter which type of organic fertilizer [one chooses] to apply, it's best to fertilize [the] lawn at least twice a growing season - in the spring and fall for cool-season grasses and summer for warm-season grasses." |
