Abstract/Contents: | "This trial was conducted on a 2.25-inch cut rough area at Hoodkroft Country Club, Derry, NH. Each treatment was replicated three times, in 49-ft2 plots, using a RCB design. On 7 Apr, three rates of E2Y45 18.5% SC and one rate of Merit 75WPwere applied to the plots. On 17 May, six rates of E2Y45 18.5% SC and one rate of Merit 75WP were applied to the plots. The grass was cut 24 h prior to applications, and then every other day, or on an as-needed basis thereafter. For the 7 Apr applications, none of the treatments were watered in, but there was 0.2-inch of precipitation 3 h after applications; there was no precipitation 24 h prior to applications. For the 17 May applications, all treatments were hand-irrigated to approximately 0.25 inch, and there was no precipitation 24 h prior to, or after applications. All treatments were applied using a 7-ft boom on a bicycle-type sprayer. The boom was equipped with four 8005 flat-fan pattern nozzles, fitted with 50-mesh screens. The materials were delivered with CO2 pressure at 40 psi. The vol of insecticide and water mix was 2 gal/1000ft2. The soil type was as follows: texture, loam; sand, 46%; silt, 45%; clay, 9%; organic matter, 7.6%. Weather and soil conditions on 7 Apr were as follows: sky, overcast; wind, light breeze; air temp, 63°F; soil surface temp, 63°F; at 1-inch depth, 61°F; at 2-inch depth, 59°F; pH, 7.1; moisture, 12.0%. Weather and soil conditions on 17 May were as follows: sky, overcast; wind 5-8mph; air temp, 63°F; soil surface temp, 67°F; at 1-inch depth, 64°F; at 2-inch depth, 60°F; pH, 7.7; moisture, 13.9%. The plots were rated for live AGB larvae on 21 Oct. A Ryan sod cutter, equipped with a 12-inch blade, was used to cut along the center of the plots, 2-inches deep, where 2 ft2 of turf per plot was rolled back to reveal the larvae. Data were subjected to ANOVA and means were separated using DMRT (P ≤ 0.05). All treatments gave excellent control." |
