| Abstract/Contents: | Suggests that "a major challenge for golf course superintendents in the transition zone is maintaining putting greens of creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera), a cool-season turfgrass variety, during the summer months when temperature and humidity levels are too high for optimal growth." Provides recommendations for managing creeping bentgrass, including to "(1) increase mowing heights, (2) reduce mowing frequency to once or twice per week and (3) use greenside fans to increase air circulation across the putting green surface to reduce favorable conditions for disease." Discusses "research at The University of Tennessee [that] is investigating the effects of CO2 [carbon dioxide] enrichment for creeping bentgrass putting greens during summer heat-stress conditions." Reports that "based on anticipated results, it is hopeful that CO2 enrichment can be another tool for golf course superintendents to manage creeping bentgrass putting greens in Tennessee and across the entire transition zone." |
