| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses changes in the Greenkeeping Superintendents Association (GSA) due to World War II. States that the "annual golf tournament was called off. [The] office streamlined...All travel has been discouraged. Business is done entirely by correspondence...War gardens have been planted to fill victory pantries." Mentions the association's death benefit fund, stating that "by belonging to the death benefit fund [the greenkeeper's] family would receive every penny back and more, than [the greenkeeper] paid in dues." Suggests that "the greenkeeper...can win the fight with diseases, insects, poor soil and still lose the results through poor human relations. The same way with this war. [The United States] can win it but still lose the peace." Concludes that "as after [World War I], grass will cover the wounds of the world. But it is up to all [superintendents] to see that...the world will stay green and be worthy of a place to live, work and [raise] children." |
