Abstract/Contents:Discusses the assessment program eastablished for the Dutch method of golf green construction which uses "an amended rootzone placed over a layer of pure sand, usually with drains at the base of the sand layer at close centres [centers]." States that the objectives of this program are to "characterize the construction profiles of the greens to identify construction depths and the type of materials that had proved successful"; "develop an objective monitoring system so that the soil properties of the greens, sward characteristics and playing quality could be measured...to assess whether greens were improving or declining in quality over time"; and "to carry out a comprehensive review of management practices and...make recommendations for improvements to be implemented the following year." Explains the outcomes of the research, including the development of "guidelines for the performance of greens" and "a book on greens maintenance, the first such text in the Dutch language."
