Abstract/Contents:Suggests that "contrary to some opinions, greens rolling doesn't damage turf. In fact...rolling is agronomically beneficial because it allows for a higher cut, making putting surface turf less susceptible to disease." Explains that "rolling began in the early 20th century and became more common perhaps as early as the 1920s...That would coincide with the advent of mowers that [could cut] to a height of three-sixteenths of an inch. Sometime after the late 1920s, however, rolling fell out of favor." Profiles several greens rollers, including the RS48 from Tru-Turf, and the True-Surface Universal Vibratory Greens Rolling System by Turfline. Concludes that whatever method a superintendent chooses, "take daily green speed measurements and mow and roll accordingly to maintain the ideal speed."
