Abstract/Contents:"Vegetative establishment of buffalograss [Buchloe dactyloides (Nutt.) Englem.] has previously been in a clean seedbed. This method of establishment can be costly to the turf owner, and usually removes the area from potential use for an extended period. In an attempt to reduce the cost of establishment, buffalograss was plugged into a killed perennial ryegrass thatch. The fall prior to planting, an established perennial ryegrass turf was sprayed with Roundup. Four weeks prior to planting, Pendimethalin was sprayed as a preemergence weed control. Prerooted and non-prerooted plugs were planted on either one-foot or two-foot centers. Data indicates that the prerooted, one-foot center plantings had significantly more stolons after five weeks compared to the other three treatments. Color was not affected by prerooting or by spacing."
