Abstract/Contents:Describes a technique which largely eliminates the difficulty often experienced in getting suitable photographs of grass roots in situ because of the similarity in color between the roots and soil. States that "a trench approximately 6 feet deep was dug parallel to the grass rows and the side facing the south was smoothed. This side of the trench was used in order to take advantage of the sunlight." Also states that a garden house washed away the face of soil from the roots, and "the roots were sprayed with white enamel from a pressurized paint container...[and the paint] was removed with an ice pick." Notes that "the painted roots stand our more clearly against the dark background."
