| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the "potential value of crabgrass for soil protection and grazing in the southeastern United States is generally underestimated. The prejudice against this weedy grass in cultivated fields has obscured its possibilites for usefulness." Mentions that "common crabgrass with Florida pusley, Richardia scabra, crowfoot grass, Dactyloctenium aegypticum, and miscellaneous other species, produce a protectice soil cover after the last cultivation." Notes that smooth crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum) produces a dense sod, and "is the principal summer grass of most pastures in the mountains of Georgia and North Carolina and the foothills of Virginia." Briefly mentions other crabgrass species such as Digitaria horizontalis similar to common crabgrass, D. longiflora and D. serotina small perennials, and Digitariadecumbens Pangola grass. |
