| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study investigating the use of peroxygen chemicals for dehusking and disinfecting grains. Details the methods and materials used in the study, stating that "the seeds were first steeped in a 0.5% hydrogen peroxide solution for 55 hours at room temperature...Approximately 150 of the steeped, dried seeds were placed in a 250 ml [milliliter] filtering flash and 150 ml of a solution containing 200 ppm [parts per million] peracetic acid was added." Reports that "although a few seeds germinated within 4 to 7 days, most of them required 12 to 14 days." Also states that "the time, treatment, and concentration of peracetic acid greatly influenced effectiveness in sterilization and subsequent germination percentages." |
