| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential advantages and disadvantages of the sand-based United States Golf Association (USGA) specifications green, stating that "it is conducive to heavy traffic under unfavorable weather conditions" and "drains well, while at the same time it provides an acceptable measure of water holding capacity and a favorable root-zone environment", however "percolation can occur in this green, especially if irrigation is excessively used." Presents research conducted to investigate "the mobility and persistence of organophosphate pesticides" on USGA greens. Reports that "routine management practices, properly conducted, can minimize potential pesticide leaching. These include proper handling of materials, application rates and timing, avoidance of excessive irrigation and proper turfgrass maintenance." |
