Abstract/Contents:Discusses the transition from being a superintendent at a private golf course to a public course, explaining that "public golf is attracting a higher caliber of superintendents who are receiving better compensation." Suggests that "a superintendent changing from private to public golf may find a wider range of activities and responsibilities today." Explains that "profit should not be a dirty word in public golf, but in order to make a profit, a quality product must be offered." States that "labor crews tend to be smaller, but in general, the full-time employees receive better pay and fringe benefits than those at private clubs." Explains that "compensation at public facilities has improved in recent years" and that "fringe benefits are definitely better at public facilities."
