Abstract/Contents:Discusses potential influences on the success of a superintendent, suggesting that "success as golf course superintendents depends not only upon the application of technical knowledge but also upon the successful handling of the political aspects of [their] profession." States that "substandard paperwork will be seen and it is imperative that the superintendent handle clerical responsibilities in an accurate, timely manner." Suggests that "it is very important for the superintendent to keep the pro shop informed as to the present status of operations on the golf course." States that superintendents "must learn to handle difficult people." Suggests that "chemical and fertilizer programs can usually be best sold by laying out a small, highly visible test area on the golf course." Explains that "clear, organized assignments, proper scheduling and remaining visible to [the] staff will promote a more harmonious group." Concludes that "a superintendent can posses a great amount of technical knowledge and still have difficulties if his image is not what it should be."
