| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles Kingston Heath Golf Course in Australia, host of the 2000 Australian Open. Discusses the design of the course, stating that "Kingston Heath was a new course laid out in the mid 1920's to a Dan Soutar design, upon sandy heathland typical of the Melbourne 'sand belt.'" Explains that "it was unbunkered and thus in 1926 became one of the very first courses in Australia to receive the Mackenzie imprimatur, in the form of a comprehensive report with detailed sketches of the proposed bunkering and plans for an entirely new 15th hole." Profiles Alister Mackenzie, stating that "as a golf architect he aptly conveyed by sketch, written word and a forceful personality, his ideas and concepts which became his famous tenets." Concludes that spectators "can witness the benefits of this enterprise and can expect a Championship in the best traditions of a truly classical Mackenzie course - fearsome, fiery, a little quirky, good fun and above all a challenge that should see the best player emerge as the 2000 Australian Open Champion." |
