Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of computer software programs for golf course design. States that "whereas traditional golf course architecture has relied on the 'sketch' as the primary piece of documentation, the use of computer graphics has not only enabled architects to better visualise [visualize] their designs but more importantly to better communicate this vision." Cautions that "the computer is not a designer. Not having a personality, design flair or an intimate knowledge of golf, it can never replace the golf course architect." Discusses potential advantages of software, including "the ability to eliminate errors." Concludes that "the use of computers will not change the nature of traditional design, rather just assist in improving both design efficiency and the quality of the end product." |
