Abstract/Contents:Discusses potential factors in the creation of ideal conditions for special events, suggesting that "from a scheduling standpoint, all turfgrasses must be in optimum health in order for the superintendent to produce peak tournament conditions." Explains that "to tolerate abrasive maintenance practices and avoid irreparable thinning, the turf has to be growing vigorously so that damaged foliage is replaced." Suggests that "for special events...increasing the Stimpmeter reading by as much as a foot is, in all probability, a realistic goal" and that "weather and soil type permitting, greens should be firm, but not overly hard." Explains that "ideally, the date for completing aeration should be set well in advance of a tournament so as to ensure that the turf will be fully recovered." Suggests that "maybe putting together a detailed tournament plan and adding the cost to the annual budget is a good way to drive home the message that a special event requires special considerations.
