| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a project conducted to develop "genetically-engineered perennial grasses...for future commercialization as turfgrasses, forage crops and biofuel feedstocks." States that the "project is focusing on ecological risk assessment for an herbicide resistant creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera) that could be commercialized for use on golf courses." Explains that "the first accomplishment from this project was the documentation of Agrostis (bentgrass) demography and the production of a tool to identify the ten native and naturalized species in Connecticut...The second accomplishment was completion of preliminary work for field experiments that will test the hypothesis that two non-native bentgrass species (A. stolonifera and A. gigantea) will alter their patterns of gap colonization and plant fitness ([for example] seed production) in sites managed with herbicides." |
