Abstract/Contents:Discusses golfer expectations and their potential effect on golf course management and rounds of golf played. States that "superintendents must meet increasing expectations in an economically volatile environment. Many believe the easy solution to this is to get golfers to accept brown turf, or at least less visually appealing conditions." Suggests that "this is a compelling situation on many levels. The golf industry is facing increasing competition for a stagnant golfer base. Rounds played were flat again in 2007, the second straight year that course closures have outpaced openings." Suggests that "selling brown [turf is not] realistic. But it is realistic to focus...resources on providing a challenging golf course that is visually appealing, but not necessarily perfect...Golf course superintendents can help this initiative by starting the discussions among [their] clients." Also suggests potential methods of reducing costs.
