Abstract/Contents:Discusses grass selection, stating that "the selection of better grasses has been one of the strongest points of the [United States Golf Association (USGA)] Green Section's work...[They] were responsible also for bringing about many of the answers in disease control." Also discusses mowing, fertilization, irrigation, aerification, pest control, Poa annua control, and topdressing. States that the Green Section "would like to set up a kind of turf made up of the kind of grasses that have low maintenance requirements, yet will respond to good treatment." Explains that "grasses that will provide...rigid economy, tolerate low maintenance requirements, yet will respond to good treatment are just what [members of the green industry] want." Profiles several bentgrass cultivars, highlighting potential advantages and disadvantages. Focuses on Highland Colonial bent, stating that "researchers practically destroyed all the seeded bents with a misguided application of chemicals, but the Highland bent popped back." Also profiles fescue and zoysia cultivars. Presents a question and answer session related to turfgrass maintenance techniques.
