Abstract/Contents:Discusses summer stresses on golf courses, and provides potential methods that superintendents may use to manage them. Explains that "summer weather can bring with it high temperatures and lots of rain" and that "when [one mows] low, [they] are essentially making the plant food factory very small and it can't produce much food...This will ultimately lead to an exhaustion of the plant's food supply." Suggests management practices to help prevent heat stress, including "moderate nitrogen levels"; "syringe during the heat of the day"; " and "install fans to cool turf." Also discusses lack of rain, recommending to "ensure [the] irrigation system is performing well with good coverage of the greens." Suggests that "tree pruning and thinning can both decrease shade and increase air movement. Raising the mowing height will also help increase leaf area and photosynthesis." Mentions other summer stresses, including wet wilt, scald, dormancy, and heavy textured soils.
