Abstract/Contents:Discussses potential methods of maintaining turf to help deter the possible effects of climate change. States that "any discussion about climate change and global warming is filled with debate about the validity of environmental phenomenon." Suggests that "there are many ways to look at climatic data and many ways to mold the information for one side or another of an argument. Many climatologists agree that the data they have...is far from perfect in that the way it is collected makes it difficult to draw conclusions." Also suggests that "there are several consequences of global warming that will influence golf course design and management...For example, there has been a steady increase in the number of heavy rainfall events (2 inches or more) with increased likelihood of runoff since the mid-1970s." Explains that "increased runoff means courses will have to be designed, or redesigned, to retain more surface water." Concludes that "climate change will spur a whole new economy. Innovations will lead to new industries. The challenge remains whether we will enact regulation, or if energy efficiency will improve through education rather than fear tactics."
