Abstract/Contents: | "Until now there has not been an effective way to quantitatively describe organic matter among turfgrass scientists. Scientists at North Dakota State University and University of Nebraska used infrared (IR) spectroscopy in conjunction with partial least squares analysis as a rapid and inexpensive means to characterize soil organic matter in putting greens. The study's findings include: FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectroscopy can be used for identification of peat and other organic material. FTIR spectroscopy at mid-infrared range can be used for characterization of rootzone organic matter. FTIR spectroscopy in combination with PLS analysis can be used for quantification of many soil properties such as pH, CEC, organic carbon, etc." |
