| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the Field Wear Index (FWI), "a charting system developed to assist sports turf managers [that] enables better visualization and tracking of the amount of activity occuring on...sport fields." Explains that "some activities have greater impacts on sport fields than others. For instance, football is harder on a sport field than baseball. Activities where the players are allowed to wear cleats have a greater negative impact on an athletic field than activities where the players do not wear cleats." States that "to compensate for the impact each event has on an athletic field [one assigns] each activity a multiplier." Concludes that "the FWI should not be used as a replacement for walking...fields daily. On the contrary, the FWI is more effective when [one does] walk [the] fields daily. Use the index as another [turf management] tool." |
