Abstract/Contents:Profiles several fungal diseases of turfgrass, highlighting potential methods of control. States that "the diseases affecting fine turf as well as other green plants are caused mainly by the fungi...These mircoorganisms do not live only on the dead remains of living plants. They may also be found on living plants and, in some instances, both on living and dead plants." Discusses melting-out, large brown patch, dollar spot, fading-out, and copper spot. Lists "the principles of plant disease control": "exclusion"; "eradication"; "protection"; and "resistance." Concludes that "disease will...occur in the most favorable locations on a golf course when the environmental conditions are proper and the parasitic organims and susceptible turf are present. Turf disease control may best be obtained by understanding the principle involved in disease and disease control and in applying these principles when and where it is possible. Any practice which will keep the relative humidity low, the temperature under partial control and allow the fungicide to come into contact with the fungus will be economical in the long run."
