Abstract/Contents:Discusses possible methods of lowering the risk of developing skin cancer. States that "skin cancer, which is by far the most common form of cancer affecting New Zealanders, comes in a variety of shapes and sizes," including melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and basal cell carcinoma (BCC). States that "all these cancers are preventable and can be treated if found early enough." Explains that "shade and timing of work or events are first line defences [defenses] against UVR [ultraviolet radiation]. Temporary or permanent shade structures or trees provided for spectators or participants at events can reduce the time people are exposed to UVR. Some workplaces rotate tasks and reschedule work to reduce exposure...Clothing, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are also important defences in protecting the skin from sunburn when working or playing outside is unavoidable."
