| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a study conducted to evaluate possible chemical methods of controlling the hairy chinch bug (HCB), Blissus leucopterus hirtus Montandon. Details methods and materials used in the study and lists treatments evaluated in the study, including Merit 75WP, Arena 50WP, Tempo Ultra SC, Tempo 20WP, and Talstar 0.67SC. Reports that "in 2001, the neonicotinoids, MeritTM (imidacloprid) and ArenaTM (clothiandin), were found to be effective for control of HCB...TempoRM (cyfluthrin) was not effective, but Tempo UltraTM (betacyfluthrin) and TalstarTM (bifenthrin) were effective pyrethroids...Studies in 2002 showed that Merit and MeridianTM (thiamethoxam, another neonicotinoid) were effective, but Arena yielded mixed results...In 2003, Merit and Arena produced satisfactory HCB control by 13 DAT [days after treatment]...[and] in 2004, Arena and acetamiprid again showed that they are excellent neonicotinoid candidates for HCB control." |
