Abstract/Contents:"Fungicides were evaluated at the Rutgers Turf research Farm in Adelphia, NJ for their ability to control stripe rust on two cultivars of Kentucky bluegrass. Seed was sown on 13 Sep 80. Cultivar merion received 0.8 lb actual N(10-6-4)/1000 sq ft on 27 May and 11 Jul and 'American' 2.8 lb actual N(10-6-4)/1000 sq ft between 27 May and 23 Jul. Turf was irrigated as needed to avoid water stress. Cutting height was maintained at 2.0 in until 1 Sep and was then left unmowed to encourage disease development. Plots were 3 ft x 9 ft and treatments were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design. Fungicides were applied with a CO2 powered boom sprayer equipped with Tee Jet 8003 nozzles, at 30 psi, in water equivalent to 2.0 gal/1000 sq ft. Treatments were applied on 3 and 24 Sep. Turf plots were visually evaluated for disease severity on 6 Sep, 15, 22 and 30 Oct. Natural infection was first observed and confirmed on 2 Sep, but was not prevalent until 6 Sep and 11 Oct on the 'American' and 'Merion' stands, respectively. Bayleton, Banner and DPX-H6573 provided excellent control of stripe rust for both cultivars under the conditions of this test. Residual activity for all three compounds was significant for up to 35 days after the 24 Sep application. Daconil and RH-3866 provided good disease suppression in the 'Merion' test when inoculum pressure was low, but less than adequate control once the epiphtotic intensified. Neither product performed very well in the 'American' test due to early disease development. No phytotoxicity or growth requlatory effect was observed."
