Abstract/Contents:Discusses "research progress in turf at the Everglades Station" in Florida in 1950. Details the experiment stating that "One hundred-twenty selections of bermudagrass, Cynodon dactylon, planted in 10 × 10 foot squares in December, 1948, were gradually reduced in height until they were moved daily for one year at 3/16 inch." Suggests that "the best seed-bed mixture for the encouragement of a good root system for grass should consist of the following constituents: 1. Not more than 65 percent sand, much of it sharp and coarse"; "2. Note more than 15 percent colloidal material, such as clay or marl"; and "3. From 15-20 percent organic material." Concludes that the inclusion of ureaform chemicals "in complete fertilizer mixes will prevent or greatly delay the 'setting up' so frequently encountered in the humid Florida climate."
