Abstract/Contents:"Chemical methods of controlling seedhead formation in tall fescue and other cool season grasses in rights-of-way are used extensively to eliminate mowing in many areas. Unfortunately these treatments have no residual effect on succeeding growth of warm season grasses such as Dallisgrass, Johnsongrass, Broomstraw, Foxtail and others. In this experiment an attempt was made to accomplish season-long control of all grass seedhead formation by sequential applications of selective chemicals on cool and warm season grasses. Applications were initiated on April 10, 1986 utilizing chemicals known to be effective in controlling seedheads of cool season grasses, primarily tall fescue. The treated areas were oversprayed with combinations of Oust and Roundup on June 10, 1986. The mixtures used and results obtained are shown in the accompanying tables. This data indicates that mowing can be eliminated by sequential applications of grass inhibitors and herbicide combinations in areas where the dominant turf grass is tall fescue."
