| Abstract/Contents: | "The objective of this study was to observe the growth regulatory effects of some chemicals on "Rebel" tall fescue. research was conducted at the Virginia Tech Turfgrass Research Center, Blacksburg, VA. The experiment was designed as a randomized complete block with three replications of 2.4 x 3.2 m plots. Treatments were applied at various dates ranging from April 8 to April 29, 1986, with a bicycle type sprayer using 8003 nozzles at 23 psi at 467 L ha-1. Plots were fertilized the previous fall with 10-10-10 fertilizer at 0.45 kg N per 929 m2. Plots were mowed prior to PGR application. Observations of quality, phytotoxicity, foliar height, seedhead height and seedhead number were taken. DPX L5300 and DPX M6316 elicited no notable phytotoxic effects. Foliar height suppression was sufficient, however seedheads were not adequately reduced by either compound. DPX M6316 plus mefluidide achieved propitious foliar height suppression while creating no notable phytotoxic effects and affording nearly complete control of seedheads. The later spray dates of imazathapyr plus imazapyr elicited complete seedhead control, while affording superior foliar height suppression with trace amounts of phytotoxicity." |
