Abstract/Contents: | Discusses a potential increase in price for hand mowers, trimmers, and chainsaws in 2008. States that the equipment "will...raise in price as manufacturers are forced to comply with...emission standards." Explains that "these price increases are the result of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA)...issuance of the third and final phase of a program designed to cut emissions from 'non-road spark ignition engines' by 95 percent by the year 2015." Also discusses the use of ethanol-blended fuels in golf course maintenance equipment, cautioning that "ethanol is corrosive, and it runs hotter and faster...Blended fuels can destroy engines not equipped to handle them." States that "ethanol is cheaper than gasoline, but it produces less energy so it takes more gas to go the same distance." |
