| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a message from Michigan State University (MSU) professor, Thomas A. Nikolai, overviewing his work teaching online courses for turf students in China, and his lightweight rolling studies. Recommends to "mow one day without rolling, and then roll the next day without mowing and continuing to alternate on that program for the entire season." Reports that "the results from alternating mowing and rolling on a daily basis included: better turfgrass quality compared to mowing everday"; "the same playability (green speed) compared to mowing everyday"; and "a possible cost saving for a golf course between $12,000 to $30,000 per year depending upon their mowing program and length of season." Lists other projects on which Nikolai has performed research, including "wetting agent work on a sloped green"; "adjustments in lawn mowing height and its impact on root depth and turf quality"; and "soil sample/leaf tissue analysis on three rootzones." |
