Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential "value of natural environments for psychological restoration, such as psychophysiological stress reduction." Describes possible "implications for efforts to mitigate health inequalities," including "the lack of evidence on protective values of restorative experiences in natural environments is similar to the lack of evidence for other stress-reduction approaches." Reports that "the extent to which green spaces attract people for physical activity could have much to do with the availability of restorative experiences...Other data indicate that physical activity yields more beneficial emotional, cognitive, and physiological effects in natural environments compared with commonplace urban outdoor spaces." Suggests that "green space does more than pretty up the neighbourhood [neighborhood]; it seems to have real effects on health inequality, of a kind that politicians and health authorities should take seriously." |
