Abstract/Contents: | Profiles Gold Coast Turf Club in Australia, highlighting track manager Geoff Fanning's turf management practices. Focuses on drainage, noting that "even with this grass on a porous sand base, drainage can be a big problem. Fanning and his team of 16 workers have largely solved this problem with the mechanised [mechanize] Verti Drain machine which punches holes about 20cm [centimeters] deep and almost 2cm in diameter to let water drain from the upper soil levels into the sand base and prevent any wet or boggy spots in the track." Discusses irrigation at Gold Coast, stating that "the main course and a grassed training track are irrigated by a Southern Cross design pop-up sprinkler system which delivers effluent water from a sewerage treatment plant." |
