| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses possible benefits of continuing education in the turfgrass field. Explains that "superintendents are required to perform a number of tasks, including budgeting, scheduling, hiring, research, design and planning. In order to perform these duties, aspiring superintendents can no longer rely on just an apprenticeship to advance their careers." Describes possible considerations to take when choosing a continuing education program, stating that "the first step in finding out about educational programs is to do a little research." Notes that "many programs are designed specifically for professionals who need to update their skills and want to advance in their careers, but cannot schedule the time to complete a two- or four-year program." Emphasizes that "although many programs consist of well-educated faculty employed in the industry, there is still a need to raise the image of the golf course professional as a whole." |
