Abstract/Contents:Suggests that water is essential for plant survival, noting that "over 90% of plant tissue is made up from the life giving liquid... it also contributes to cooling the plant, keeping it turgid, and acts as a vital transport system for nutrients and chemicals around the plant." Mentions the importance of aeration. States that "raising the height of cut and even leaving the clippings on certain playing surfaces to act as mulch will play...[a] small but significant part in moisture conservation." Discusses the application of water and the irrigation system, stating that "much can still be achieved by checking the system thoroughly during the off, or at the start of, the season." Suggests that "poor spacing of sprinkler heads is perhaps the [most common] problem." Suggests that using sprinkler densograms "can save water and take into account the conservation of the peripheral landscape."
