Abstract/Contents:"Undergraduate college-level turf education is necessary to provide a continuous and quality-based work force for the green industry. Information from undergraduate turf students related to turf education and internship is lacking. Therefore, three survey studies were conducted from 2002 to 2008 representing two surveys at the national level and one survey at the university level to evaluate feedback and attitude of turf students toward their turf education and turf internship experience. Two national surveys (Study I and II), which included 880 participants representing 39 colleges and universities in the USA, consisted of general turf education and internship responses from turf students. A third survey (Study III), which included 112 participants at one university, consisted of pre- and post- internship academic performance evaluations in both turf-related courses and two non-turf-related courses from turf students who participated in an internship program. Survey results indicate that turf students were generally satisfied with the turf courses, professors, and equipment and facilities. Turf students understood the importance of the internship experience in their education and considered the internship helpful for future career/employment searches and opportunities. Turf internship experience helped turf students in their academic performance in turf-related-courses but had no impact on non-turf- related courses. Survey results also suggest that the internship experience for students majoring in turf should be encouraged after the completion of introductory level courses in turfgrass science and management."
