Abstract/Contents:Discusses the control of Rolf's disease on cotula greens. States that the disease is caused by the Basidiomycete fungus Sclerotium rolfsii. Suggests that Rolf's disease "becomes a problem when hot humid weather follows a dry spell. Two factors seem responsible for this. First, dry soil conditions cause the hard resistant coat of the sclerotia to crack...Second, drying of the soil results in a reduction in the numbers of other microorganisms present." Mentions an outbreak of Rolf's disease at Manly Bowling Club in New Zealand, stating that "Calirus was applied in an attempt to control it. Apparently, complete success was obtained on the treated area of cotula." Provides a three-point summary of prevention and control recommendations, which include maintaining soil moisture, keeping greens closely mown, avoiding excess amounts of nitrogenous fertilizers, and using Calirus at recommended rates.
