Abstract/Contents:Presents an experiment conducted in 1977 at the Northern Bowling Club in Palmerston North, New Zealand, in which a green was built "with a sand/soil/peat topsoil on top of the old green." Reports that "8 lines of pipe drains [were lain] in the subsoil." Provides a diagram depicting the elevation of the green's drainage pattern. Details methods and materials used when constructing the green, stating that the greenskeeper and greens supervisor worked together to attain the club committee's approval of the project. Concludes that "it is yet too early to fully evaluate the system but in the very wet period in mid-May immediately after it was installed, water was draining away in reasonable time following heavy rain."
