Abstract/Contents: | A pond is a habitat which attracts qualified colonizers such as bacteria, algae, zooplankton, benthic invertebrates, aquatic weeds, and aquatic vertebrates. Design factors to help develop a pond design that minimizes the potential for unwanted biological growths include: location, soils, shape, depth, thermal stratification, aerators, water movement, source water, wildlife, pond monitoring, and control of aquatic weeds and algae. |
