Abstract/Contents:Describes thatch, pest, and disease problems at Waimarino Golf Club in New Zealand between 1972-80. Explains the process of thatch buildup, stating that "the climate in...[the club's] area is conditioned by its height above sea level of approximately 2000 ft. [feet]. The cool conditions resulting for the greater part of the year tend to slow the breakdown of dead leaves and stems. This means that thatch development is more likely to occur under these conditions than where soil temperatures are higher." Details the golf club's restoration program involving coring, slicing, dethatching, and lime applications. Suggests that "by persisting with...[these techniques], soiling, and making sure that the pH [potentail Hydrogen] is around the 5.5 level, the problem can be overcome."
