| Abstract/Contents: | "The biodegradability of cereal straw in soil is low because of lignin and lignin-cellulose complexes in their structure. Photooxidation prior to soil incorporation was evaluated as a means of modifying these structures to improve biodegradability. Microbial activity increased significantly when an annual ryegrass straw was photooxidized as a 0.5% w/v mixture in water by ultraviolet light in the presence of hydrogen peroxide." |
