| Abstract/Contents: | "Two types of 10-10-10 fertilizers are applied at annual rates of 3 lbs of nitrogen per 1000 sq. ft. Timing of the applications is of special interest. The nitrogen source in one fertilizer is ammonium nitrate (soluble) and urea formaldehyde (slowly available) in the other. Turf quality scores have been taken for four seasons and clipping weights durinh 1967-68. On the average fall fertilization with soluble nitrogen has been better than spring or summer treatments. Fall feeding produces dense turf that maintains better color during fall and winter and will break dormancy 3-4 weeks earlier than if N is applied during spring and summer. The common growth flushes associated with spring and summer fertilization are minimized. Grass performance is more uniform. Timing of treatments with ureaformaldehyde has little influence on grass performance. Grass response has been less than satisfactory." |
